Learning Outcome 1

Demonstrate the ability to approach writing as a recursive process that requires substantial revision of drafts for content, organization, and clarity (global revision), as well as editing and proofreading (local revision).  Revision

The paper I chose to use for comparison regarding the substantial changes in editing happened to be my first paper. I chose it due to the fact that it was the first paper of the semester and it was almost like wiping the dust off the metaphorical shelves for my writing skills. What I saw mostly from my first draft to my final draft is that I wasn’t as thorough as I should have been whilst looking over my paper before passing my first draft in, seeing as I missed a plethora of sentence errors. Although that could also be linked to lack of skill, there were still quite a bit of sentence errors seen in the first draft that needed to be addressed. Which they were for the most part when the final draft was handed in, you’ll see the difference in comments between the two that shows how drastically different the two papers are in that sense. What should be worked on is bettering how I set up sentences and more importantly where I cut them off. A running theme in all of my papers is that there tend to be mismatched sentences along with comma splices that ruin the whole thing and time and time again they’re commented on. I need to take better care to notice such mistakes and try to catch them ahead of time. What also should be worked on that is brought up in the first paper is finding better ways to move into different topics, I seem to struggle on some occasions, as seen in some other papers, with going from one topic to another as it can be seen as abrupt and odd. These skills need to be continuously worked on and I will continue to work on them throughout my years in college as I continue to write papers for my other classes.
